Being an avid reader, I’ve gobbled hundreds of books since school days. But not many of ’em have lingered on in my head (to the extent that I might actually sit and say a few words about them).
A LONG WAY GONE. Thats the name of the book that I’ve finished reading. There’s something really beautiful about the way its been written. Ishmael Beah is the author and its his story that he has given from page 1 to page 228. Every single word and every single line in every single page is the struggle of this boy of having seen the civil war and of having been a part of it. Believe me, it takes balls of steel go through this kinda shit and come out of it. Call is destiny or whatever.
Here’s a boy whose family is gunned down, is forced to take shelter at the most ridiculous places, ultimately pushing him into becoming a boy soldier. Innocence being snatched away only to be replaced by brutal killings. All that Ishmael wants is his family but what actually happens is what his story is all about.
